joe tuttle
president and CEO
Born and raised in North Branch, Michigan, Joe Tuttle moved to Florida in 2004 to escape the harsh winters. He studied business administration at Universidad del Este and has owned and operated many successful businesses over the years.
Joe's business success began at age 12 when he began buying sports memorabilia, which became an obsession for 23 years. Over the years, the value of Joe's collection grew in the millions and found great prosperity in sales and trade. In 1997, he signed a contract with the Home Shopping Network to take his sales to the entire country. He used this newfound achievement to pursue other business opportunities, opening six jewelry stores and a sporting goods store.
Through his business, he met and formed a relationship with a future colleague who introduced him to the treatment industry. Although Joe does not fight addiction, he is a very caring and family man and was intrigued by this potential new venture. Passionate about seeing growth and success, Joe wanted to be able to provide a safe space for recovering alcoholics and addicts to succeed.
In 2012, the Banyan Treatment Center was established. Banyan was originally a small "mom and pop" show, but it didn't stay that way for long. Over the next two years, Joe hired some talented people who shared a similar vision and work ethic, and Banyan began to grow. Today, Banyan offers all levels of care throughout the continuum of care, many specialty programs, and locations across the country. “I love my people and our team makes this company successful. We are truly a family and as long as we continue to share the same passion, Banyan will remain the special place that it is." Joe serves as CEO of all Banyan locations and continues to be the driving force behind our success.

Born in New York City, Shawn moved several times, with a final destination in Florida in 2003. He attended Taylor Allderdice High School Honors Program in Pittsburgh before moving to Boca Raton, FL and graduating from Boca in 1989. at Mouse High School. . Shawn received a Bachelor of Social Work from Florida Atlantic University and a Master of Clinical Social Work from Barry University in Miami in 2010. Shawn received his Ph.D. (with a concentration in Clinical Social Work and Human Behavior) from Barry University in 2018.
Shawn started as a behavior coach at Fair Oaks Hospital right out of high school. At the time, Fair Oaks was a private paying center for celebrities and the upper class. Fulfilling a dream, he left the field to embark on a creative career in classical theater that spanned fifteen years between New York City and Orlando, FL. This endeavor also led him to write and produce several plays and books. While developing a career in observational stand-up comedy, the need and love to understand people's motivations always led him back to the study of human psychology. The character research modalities are very similar to the qualitative research paths of the social sciences and thus his interest in mental health was revived and a subsequent search for academic accreditation occurred. Shawn has managed to find a home in the growing and challenging field of addiction counseling. He soon discovered that her open, direct, and candid style of interacting with customers was a valid and successful strategy that further motivated his pursuit of a degree in human behavior.
Shawn says, “My job is just to talk to people. I enjoy interacting with those who are missing the opportunity to share their problems. No one at twelve says, "I can't wait to grow up and get hooked." I like to take advantage of that innocence and confusion and redirect the coping strategy towards using healthy and adaptive strategies that use a strengths perspective while being very open with my observations. People deserve this truth; they pay for this service. Neglecting them in this ministry reflects the abandonment they experienced in their early years.”
Shawn's favorite part of his job is the energy that is transmitted through oxytocin when the victim's consciousness is heightened. Experiencing that “AHA” moment in another human being validates one's purpose in the world and contributes to the realization of human potential and experience in others. “People do the best they can based on their conscience; I like to create that awareness.” Shawn's goal for his career at Banyan is to bring his maladaptive obsession and compulsion removal skills to the level that the facility will allow.
